The Taxi Driver Died

by Chance Kelsey on Tuesday, April 14, 2009

The Taxi Driver Died

When I would go to the Chevron gas station I would once in awhile see a particular Latino Cab driver. He was from Mexico. He would often talk to the black clerk who worked the night shift. Sometimes I would notice that he wore shades at night.

Wearing shades over your eyes at night makes it even harder to see, shades are for daytime. Sometimes this middle age fellow would talk about how hard it was to make money in the cab business. He said sometimes it was good other times it was bad. He was a short man of about 5 feet 6 or 7 inches, and he looked very tired most of the times I saw him.

He was friendly, and said hello to me sometimes when I would come to the store.
Then one night I came to the store, and the clerk told me you know that cab driver who use to come here? I said yes, well he died.

I said how did he die? He overdosed on drugs, he was a heroin addict. The poor man had worked hard all of his life, and the stress of daily living affected him greatly. Here to you Cabbie be at peace, and may you find the rest without the stress.
